Ocean by Paula Greene

Ocean

So beautiful my ocean
so compelling
but so dark and full of secrets
of lives and dreams

So much history
my ocean
so many lives lost
taken to your murky bed

But you are beautiful my ocean
but so cruel too
you take so easily
without recourse
and everytime without caring

So as I sit and watch your waves
I think of all those lost souls
and I wonder
how can something so so beautiful
be so cruel
and only you know the answer to that
my beautiful beautiful ocean...

Titanic (Ocean) by Joseph Mcgowan

TITANIC
Sank 15-04-1912

She lies at the bottom of the ocean
Been there for nearly a hundred years
They said she was unsinkable
Yet they still seen a sea of tears
That came from all the relatives
Who had lost their kin?
When the ship hit the iceberg
She sprung open like a pin
Many lost their lives that night
In a sea so cold
And many owe their lives that night
To those who were brave and bold
Some say you can hear their cries
If you listen carefully
Of those that went down with the ship
That lies at the bottom of the sea

Favourite Jeans (Ocean) by Simon Sylvester

favourite jeans
by
simon sylvester

your eyes are like denim
she said
worn and scuffed and well-loved
hers are the depths
of the atlantic
bursts of lights
vertigo darks
endless nights
for abandoned men
who wear favourite jeans
and make green tea
in favourite mugs
while she chops onions
the saucepan steams over
the lid measures in clunks
my boiling heart

MOTHER

When we were all put out to sea
Arthur wossname sailed the ship
Bound for icebergs bound for the deeps
Why did he help when he was on his knees
Himself?
No word of thanks from our little faces
As he,
Undeterred
Steered us all to safety
While we played or sulked
Or sulked or hid
Like kids do. In mud
What was it to him? He wasn’t ‘blood’
But when we were big faces
That vault that housed few happy mem’ries
Started turning itself over…
Like a lone pair of socks
On a fast spin cycle
No one could ignore his efforts
His silent nurturing but loving way
Our “mother” Arthur
Long after Arthur’s final footsteps
Trudged along our difficult trajectory
We increasingly guessed about how he did it-
“…lucky loving upbringing?”
“…spare time on his hands?”
“…sympathy.”

Whatever it was
He had it in spades
And then we dug out his funeral poem
Chosen himself
And left on a shelf.

“Crossing The Bar” by Alfred Lord Tenneyson
With our worldly secular hands
We gripped the laminated verse
And like most poetry
At first
Didn’t ‘get it’

And then found Arthur there
In every living line.

We scuttled off to the library
To find Tennyson
To find Arthur…

To find Mother.

Mother

Mothers’ mother didn’t mother
So mother didn’t mother too
Mother’s mother meant nothing to mother
So why does mine matter?
I dunno …but she does.

Love Note: 101 Reasons Why I Love Adam Law

We found this love note in a donated book. The person took the trouble to write (101 reasons!) the note so we thought it only right to take the trouble to put it on our blog http://poetswindow-blog.blogspot.com/. Also, it makes you wonder just how it ended up in a a charity shop... what happened to them...did he get the note...will Adam Law see this blog...

Surrender by P.E.Ralph

Will that sardine ever give in ?
Nah ! Unless he feels trapped in that tin !

Our cute acorn will only ever cede
If a root and shoot shatter our little baby seed.

Germs ? They oppose the health-warnings of mums...
And then poor little baby sucks thumbs and succumbs !

Listen... no BANKER will EVER submit...
Except when the fan by the BROWN-stuff gets hit.

If AL-CAPONE had found A.A. one dark night,
Even AL COHOL would have lost the title fight !

Even STARKEST DARKNESS --- Prince Power Himself --- will resign
When one miniscule candle determines the time;
But that same candle's flame could become self-extinguished,
Burning oxygen's life 'till that, too,is relinquished,
Turning what one might count as world-war's valedictory
Into what might amount to bell-jar's Pyrric victory.

Goose-steps that beat France ? Doomed to yield
To Stalingrad's frost-bitten field !
Now... Napoleon could rule from a boat,
But could not make St. Helena float !

Those Romans ?
Trust in fire ! The sword !
Eagle's Ego !+
Lute and lyre can't afford...
Romans,PLEASE go !

Roman gods left thier nail-holes in feet of defeat;
But --- far from obscene --- was One God's unseen feat.
